A podium for van Horebeek in Brazil

After coming desperately close to a podium in three previous MX2 GPs this year, Jeremy Van Horebeek of Kawasaki Team CLS grabbed his first trophy of the season at Campo Grande in Brazil.

The Belgian had already shown his liking for the sandy track on Saturday with a strong third place in the qualification race, but had to show great character in the opening GP moto on Sunday to fight his way back to sixth place after his front wheel had dropped into soft sand and thrown him over the bars five laps into the race as he fought his way back from a poor start. A much better getaway in moto two saw Jeremy chasing the leaders in third position all race and he even started to claw back their early advantage mid-moto before twisting his right ankle in a rut. Showing great spirit he battled to the finish to be rewarded not only with third in the moto but also in the overall result on the day. Advancing one position to sixth in the series standings the on-form Belgian now has an excellent chance of snatching fourth in the series behind teammate Steven Frossard.

The Frenchman had an unfortunate weekend but battled on to consolidate his third position in the series. Steven also fell after his front wheel dropped into a soft section of track soon after the start of the first moto but he shrugged off a mild concussion to salvage eleventh position at the finish. Despite a number of minor errors in race two he moved forward to fifth position at the end of the moto and is now virtually assured of maintaining his top three series ranking to the end of the season.
